We’ve discussed how to build your business with Facebook. In this post, we’d like to dive deeper and discuss some specific tips and trends that can help you make the most of this powerful marketing tool.

Manage your comments
Here’s a simple trick to manage what people say about you on Facebook. Many of our clients have had people respond negatively to a post and don’t realize it until it has been public for hours or even days. To automatically hide all comments (which you can then unhide), simply go to your Settings tab, click on “General,” and under “Page Moderation” create a list of words that will automatically block comments to your posts until such time you can review them. Here’s a list (the 100 most used words in the English language) that will block most, if not all, comments: the, of, and, a, to, in, is, you, that, it, he, was, for, on, are, as, with, his, they, I, at, be, this, have, from, or, one, had, by, word, but, not, what, all, were, we, when, your, can, said, there, use, an, each, which, she, do, how, their, if, will, up, other, about, out, many, then, them, these, so, some, her, would, make, like, him, into, time, has, look, two, more, write, go, see, number, no, way, could, people, my, than, first, us, been, call, who, any, its, now, find, long, most, day, did, get, come, made, may, part.

Manage your reviews
Also under the Settings tab (also under “General”), you have the option of turning your reviews on or off. If your collection of review nets you less than an overall rating of four stars, you may want to consider turning them off until such a time when you’ve gotten more positive reviews. As we discussed in how to maintain a strong online reputation, ask satisfied clients, patients, residents and family members to post a review on Facebook.

Manage who can post to your page
If you don’t want people to be able to post things to your page, you can prevent them from doing so. We suggest disabling people from posting to your page. While you’re on the General Settings page, take a look around and see what other options you have to manage your page. There are valuable tools that give you more control over your Facebook presence.

Create a call to action
Just underneath your cover photo, you have the option to have potential clients call or visit your website via the call-to-action blue button. You can choose the text of that button from a dropdown menu. Choices include Call Now, Contact Us, and Learn More. If you choose the Call Now option and people are on their desktop, a number will pop up for them to call. If they’re on their smartphone, it will dial the number for them. If you want people to go to your website, Learn More or Contact Us are good options.

Make sure your headline delivers on its promise
If you’re posting a link to a blog post or news article, make sure the headline accurately represents what is covered in the story it links to. Facebook recently announced that it is changing its algorithm to help ensure that what it considers to be “clickbait” appears less frequently in people’s news feeds. You’ve all seen these types of headlines – “He just went out to buy some milk – but what happened next will AMAZE you!” When you click on the link it takes you to heavily ad-laden sites that don’t deliver on the promise of the headline.
