May 2016 was the fifth month in a row to set records for heat and the trend is expected to continue. Higher temperatures often increase the likelihood of wildfires. Additionally, high-density regions, like southern California, have experienced less than 75 percent of normal precipitation, creating draught conditions that are now entering their fifth straight year.

Wildfires across western America have been getting bigger and more frequent over the past 30 years and, according to Predictive Services and the National Interagency Fire Center, wildfire risk for July and August of this year will be higher than normal in much of California, Nevada and Idaho as well as Hawaii. This means that the risk of wildfires in the western US will be very high this summer, with potentially devastating results.

The best way to deal with an emergency is to have the information you need to prepare and respond before it hits. That’s where our Emergency Preparedness app comes in. This versatile app gives you online resources at your fingertips to prepare for, respond to, and recover from numerous emergencies, including wildfires.

The app was recently credited with helping skilled nursing providers in Arizona respond quickly to recent wildfires there.

The Emergency Preparedness app:

Provides life-saving information
The app is a one-stop library of emergency resources, making it fast and easy to load and update emergency-related information and resources for all your members or locations. It’s a mobile resource center that can connect you with the agencies and people you’ll need in a crisis.

Is customizable
Facility-specific resources can include emergency staffing procedures, valve shut-off diagrams, training checklists, contact lists, etc. Information can be uploaded quickly and easily.

Is available online or offline
This app lets you store and retrieve information in one easy accessible place. Emergency resources are easily located by broad category (prepare, respond, recover), individual topic (hurricane, fire, earthquake, etc.), or keyword search.

We developed this app in collaboration with the California Association of Health Facilities, and their app just recently won the “Power of A” Silver Award from the American Society of Association Executives. The Power of A Awards recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions associations make to society by enriching lives, creating a competitive workforce, preparing society for the future, driving innovation and making a better world.
